Why Moss Is More Than Ugly
The black streaks (an algae that feeds on the limestone filler in shingles) are mostly cosmetic at first. Moss is worse. The method matters as much as the cleaning. We soft wash: a low-pressure detergent application that kills the growth and lets the rain rinse it away over the following weeks. We never pressure wash shingles, because high pressure strips granules and takes years off a roof in one afternoon. Zinc or copper strips at the ridge keep the growth from coming back.
