Roof Insurance Claim Assistance in Springfield

After a hailstorm rolls through, the door knocks start, and some of those contractors will promise to handle everything with your insurance company. Be careful with that promise. The claim is yours, not theirs, and in most states a roofer isn’t allowed to negotiate it for you.

Here’s what Summit Roofing actually does: we inspect, we photograph, we measure, we write the estimate, and we stand on the roof with your adjuster to point at what we found. You file the claim and make the decisions. That division of labor is legal, clean, and it works.

What We Do

  • Free storm damage inspection. We check the roof plus the gutters, downspouts, and window wraps, because adjusters read dented soft metals as collateral evidence of hail size.
  • Photo documentation. Dated photos of every bruise, crease, and tear, with chalked test squares marked the same way adjusters mark them.
  • Measurements and a written estimate in the line-item format carriers expect, so your file is complete before anyone argues about scope.
  • Meet the adjuster on site. When your carrier schedules the inspection, we’re on the roof with the adjuster, walking through what we documented so nothing gets missed in a ten-minute visit.
  • Do the work. Once your carrier issues its scope of loss and you choose your contractor, we complete the repairs or full replacement and document completion for your records.

What We Don’t Do

  • We don’t file the claim. You do. Carriers deal with the policyholder, and the decision to file should stay in your hands.
  • We don’t negotiate with your insurer. That’s your role, or a licensed public adjuster’s if you choose to hire one.
  • We never cover, waive, or absorb deductibles. It’s illegal in many states, and a contractor who offers is planning to get that money back out of your roof: thinner materials, skipped steps, or an inflated invoice. Walk away.

How a Roof Claim Usually Goes

  1. Inspection and documentation. We inspect the roof and build your photo, measurement, and estimate file.
  2. You file. You call your carrier or agent and open the claim.
  3. The adjuster visit. Your carrier sends an adjuster; we meet them on the roof.
  4. Scope of loss. The carrier sends you its decision and scope paperwork.
  5. The work. You pick your contractor (you are not required to use anyone the carrier suggests), and the repairs get done and documented.

What Adjusters Look For

Hail bruising is a soft, dark spot where impact knocked the granules loose and fractured the fiberglass mat underneath; press it and it gives like a bruised apple. Blistering can look similar from the ground, but it comes from age or manufacturing, and it isn’t storm damage, which is exactly why careful documentation matters. Wind damage reads as creased shingles (a tab folded back hard enough to break its seal never reseals on its own) and missing tabs. Start with a proper roof inspection and you’ll know what’s actually up there before you decide anything.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you handle the insurance claim for me?
No, and be wary of anyone who says they will. The claim belongs to you, the policyholder. What we do is give the claim its evidence: dated photos, measurements, a written estimate, and a roofer on site for the adjuster visit. You file, and you make every decision.
Will you negotiate with my insurance company?
No. In most states a contractor can't legally negotiate a claim on your behalf; that's reserved for you or a licensed public adjuster you hire. What we can do is document the damage thoroughly and answer the adjuster's questions about scope and repair methods on site.
Can you cover or waive my deductible?
No. Deductible waivers are illegal in many states, and a roofer offering one plans to make that money back somewhere in your job. Your deductible is set by your policy, and you should expect to pay it.
Should I file a claim for every storm?
Not always. If the damage is a few wind-lifted tabs, a shingle repair may cost less than your deductible and keeps a claim off your record. We'll tell you which side of that line your roof is on after we inspect it.
Will you meet the adjuster at my house?
Yes, and we recommend it. Adjusters walk a lot of roofs in a storm season. Having the contractor who documented your damage on the roof during the visit means the test squares, bruises, and creased shingles we photographed get seen in person.
How long do I have to file a storm claim?
Less time than you'd think. Many policies set filing windows of a year or less after the storm date, and the details vary by carrier and state, so check your policy or ask your agent. Get the roof documented soon after the storm either way; dated photos protect you even if you file later.
