Roof Leak Repair in Springfield
The stain on your ceiling is where the water ends up, not where it gets in. Water rides rafters and underlayment laps for six or eight feet before it drops, so patching the shingle directly above the stain usually fixes nothing. Finding the true entry point is the actual job, and Summit Roofing has been tracing leaks through Springfield attics since 1985.
Where the Water Really Gets In
Most of what gets called a shingle leak around Madison County is a flashing failure. The valleys on the downtown bungalows have rusted thin under decades of debris from the mature trees. Chimney step flashing in Westgate has been reused through two reroofs and is finished. The newer houses off Route 9 leak at the walls, where a caulk bead stood in for step flashing. Add cracked pipe boots and backed-out nails and you have nearly the whole list.
We find the entry point, show you the photos, and quote the permanent fix in writing. If weather is moving in before the repair, we tarp it the same visit.
Chimney and wall leaks get their own page at flashing and chimney repair. Not sure whether it is leaking yet? Book a roof inspection. Our process is on the main roof leak repair page, and the Springfield hub covers the rest.
